  • Overview

    The Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Café Manager with the 4-wall contribution and management of a café. In addition, working closely with each staff member, oversee, instruct and coach to achieve individual, café and corporate goals. He/she must provide the direction and coaching necessary to achieve sales goals in a manner that will ensure the appropriate use of products and company resources. He/she is responsible for communicating factors influencing Café production and success, and works with the cafe manager to develop strategic and tactical plans to increase and sustain café revenue targets. This is a full-time hourly position, which requires approximately 35-40 hours per week, minimal traveling with occasional need to work additional hours as the business demands. Schedule is flexible and will include some evenings and weekends. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:  Management - Reporting to the Café Manager, the Assistant Café Manager ensures that our vision, mission and values are understood, embraced and modeled by all team members. Additionally, the Assistant Café Manager coaches and motivates the staff to achieve results, continuously seeking improvements to enable store, region and company growth. The Assistant Café Manager functions to support the Café Manager, and aids in the overall growth and success of the Café. The Assistant Café Manager position is an hourly full-time position, and it may entail having to work longer than planned, or being called-in as needed to manage the needs. People - Provides daily recognition, on the spot coaching and feedback on performance of individual Baristas and Shift Leaders. Communicates to the Café Manager when further disciplinary action is required, and has the authority to send home a team member for under underperforming/ inappropriate behavior. Assisted by Cafe Manager, supports Cafe operations by assisting in the screening and interviews of candidates, training and coaching of team members and provides input on individual performance, and readiness for promotion of all staff members to the Café Manager. Makes decisions about coverage in current business day, including sending crew home in quiet periods. Edits POS Lavu time punches when required and ensures Netsuite is updated daily. Assists in submitting the daily Journal, Summary and Operation - Ability to manage the daily operations of the café. Responsible for supporting daily operations, including all aspects of customer service, product quality, merchandising, cleanliness, and food safety, Reconciles cash and prepares deposits for the previous business day ensures deposit reaches the bank, and that the café change fund is kept at appropriate levels Performs minor purchasing for café needs out of petty cash, Monitors Café e-mail and telephone communications, reports issues to Cafe Manager as appropriate, Does initial trouble-shooting on facilities and equipment issues and places calls for service when required, Supports Café Manager to prepare/submit weekly product orders, Supports Café Manager to complete monthly inventory counts and mark-out tracking. Financials - Drives sales and profit on a daily basis by: Ensuring sampling and suggestive selling in all day-parts, Looking for opportunities for 0ff-premise sales (coffee services, catering, local events, etc.), Coordinating in-store events (Live Music, Customr Appreciation Days, etc.), Advising the Area Manager of un-tapped customer potential and/or competitive opportunities, Managing daily labor costs, scheduling and minimizing waste, Responsible for supporting the financial health of the café. This includes, but is not limited to, COGS staffing, a percentage to sales, coaching Baristas and Shift Leads throught accurate cash handling and driving suggestive selling and average ticket.


    Must successfully pass a ten year background and pre-employment check.

    Must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D and be at least 18 years of age.

    Must have 1+ years of Coffee/Sales/Operations experience.

    Food and beverage and/or retail experience a must.

    Prefer coffee/quick-serve operations experience.

    Must possess knowledge of Business Drivers within Coffee/Retail Industry.

    Must be able to accurately assess employee performance and provide coaching/counseling.

    Must be knowledgeable about supporting operating costs and budgets.
