Overview

The Ramp Tower Controller will be directly responsible for the day-to-day on-site operations related to the Ramp Control Tower, Airport Resource Management System (AMS), and Common Use gates managed by SFOTEC at San Francisco International Airport. This role safely controls aircraft movement in the ramp areas near the terminal buildings in the International Terminal at the San Francisco International Airport working closely with local FAA Air Traffic Control Tower personnel to ensure the safe, efficient, and expeditious movement of aircraft from the active taxiways to the non-movement ramp areas, and into their assigned gates.

 

In addition, scheduling flexibility is critical - you must be available to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 

Salary Range: $22-32 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement of aircraft into and out of the responsible terminal ramp area.
  • Manage resources using all tools provided by both SFO and SFOTEC (RMS / AMS / AGOA etc.).
  • Ensure all Flight Information Display System data is updated and correct.
  • Validate all flight schedule information and ensure day-of-operation flight information is aligned with the real-time availability of resources.
  • Identify and resolve potential off-schedule operations or conflicts before affecting real-time operations.
  • Analyze, forecast, predict, and introduce gate plan adjustments to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Determine the most efficient gate plan with alternate scenarios, due to terminal constraints, construction projects, jet bridge availability, unforeseen equipment malfunctions, and airline irregularities.
  • Analyzes, forecasts, predicts, and introduces gate plan adjustments to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Respond quickly and professionally to airline needs and changes, while simultaneously ensuring the most effective use of resources.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate efforts between airlines, ground service providers, contractors, aircraft maintenance, and ramp activities, that may affect aircraft operations.
  • Manage all phases of gate assignments during normal or irregular operations or as required by current procedure or protocol.
  • Utilize approved ICAO phraseology when communicating with air crews.
  • Adhere to all SOPs and published local directives.
  • Compile daily event logs.
  • Advises air carriers of all proposed aircraft repositions.
  • Ensures all FIDS/GIDS data managed by SFOTEC is updated and correct.
  • Assigns and monitors Common Use gates and Remote Parking stands managed by SFOTEC.
  • Assigns and monitors Airline Check-In Counters, Outbound Baggage Make-Up Units, and inbound Baggage Claim Units managed by SFOTEC.
  • Validates all flight schedule information and ensures day-of-operation flight information is aligned with real-time availability of resources.
  • Identifies and resolves potential off-schedule operations or conflicts prior to affecting real-time operations.
  • Provides and compiles statistics and other pertinent information on aircraft operations and movements to support the interest of airlines and terminal users.
  • Establishes and conducts direct communications with Airline Operations, FAA ATCT, and Airfield Safety as needed.
  • Prepares and processes all required documents and reports including gate assignment logs, incident reports, monthly Common Use gate and Remote Parking billing information, and other reports as requested.
  • Maintains, at all times, a professional and controlled workplace that meets all industry standards, established procedures and protocols under any condition or scenario.
  • Maintain an accurate database of airline flight schedules.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Manager, Tower and SFOTEC Leadership Team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education.
  • 2 years' experience in Airline, Airport Operations or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Aviation related college degree.
  • Previous Ramp Tower or FAA Air Traffic Control experience.
  • Supervisory and/or training experience
  • Strong experience in asset management and optimization, preferably at a large facility such as an airport, university, government building or manufacturing facility.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.
  • Valid Driver’s License required

Compensation:

Schedule:

  • Monday to Sunday
  • Shift pattern currently - 10 hour, 4 day on 3 days off
  • Scheduling flexibility is critical. Shift times vary / morning shift from 05:00-15:00, night shift from 19:30-05:30.
