AvAirPros Services represents airlines’ interests and assists them in meeting the airport’s operational goals. We ensure all stakeholders successfully work through the business, financial, technical, and operational issues that arise in the aviation industry.

Our client, the San Francisco Terminal Equipment Company, LLC (SFOTEC) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment, facilities, and services at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) including all terminal, landside, and airside operations and we are looking for a Duty Manager to join the team. Commercial aviation experience is required.

The Duty Manager oversees SFOTEC-managed systems and equipment, ensuring safe, efficient operations at the airport. Responsibilities include monitoring daily performance, handling incidents, and collaborating with airlines, TSA, CBP, vendors, and airport authorities to resolve issues. The role also involves enforcing safety policies, maintaining quality standards, managing stakeholder relationships, and preparing performance reports. The Duty Manager supports ramp operations, ensures smooth aircraft turnaround, and addresses operational challenges, focusing on safety, security, and performance. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Scheduling flexibility is critical - you must be available to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Salary Range: $70,000 - 90,000 per year.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Oversees and monitors SFOTEC managed/maintained systems and equipment, including but not limited to check-in counters, baggage handling, make-up and claim units, checkpoints, passenger loading bridges, gate management, FIDs, and dynamic signs.
    • Evaluate, recommend, and/or administer policies, practices, and programs necessary to ensure a safe, efficient work environment in line with the Equipment Incident Report Program.
    • Issue daily reports to the SFOTEC Member Airlines and Leadership.
    • Coordinate resolution of issues with Terminal Operations when necessary.
    • Coordinate with airlines, airport, TSA, CBP, vendors, and contractors to ensure each airline receives optimal levels of service.
    • Anticipate, identify, and resolve service/operational problems with a results-oriented approach ensuring service standards are consistently understood and maintained.
    • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships including, but not limited to the following parties:
      • SFOTEC Executive Committee and Member Airlines
      • Non-Member Airlines
      • SFOTEC Service Contractors
      • SFO International Airport Authority (SFIAA)
      • San Francisco Police Department (SFPD)
      • FIS Agencies
      • US Department of Homeland Security/Transportation Security Administration
      • Federal Aviation Administration
      • Third Party Organizations (Consultants, Attorneys, Accountants, Auditors, etc.)
      • SFO Community at large
    • Manage member and vendor relationships on a day-to-day basis.
    • Maintain quality control standards for performance, reliability, serviceability, and safety of contracted vendors.
    • Keep all concerned parties informed of daily operational requirements and changes.
    • Represent the Managing Director and SFOTEC leadership as necessary.
    • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the SFOTEC Leadership Team.

Terminal Operations:

    • Monitor passenger flows at check-in aisles, security checkpoints, FIS, and other key locations.
    • Collaborate with Ramp Coordination to assist Airlines, Ground Handlers, and Vendors as needed, to ensure an efficient aircraft turn-around processes and mitigate any impact on daily planning and gate assignments.
    • Maintain quality control standards for performance, reliability, serviceability, and safety for the international terminal and ramp operations. Respond to, mitigate, and report emergencies as necessary.
    • Complete daily on-duty shift reports for submittal to SFOTEC Leadership, Airlines, and Airport Community and provide weekly and monthly performance report dashboards and scorecards.

Ramp Coordination:

  • Works closely with SFO Airfield Safety in responding to emergencies and resolving safety­ related issues involving aircraft operations, ramp personnel, and GSE equipment.
  • Oversees SFOTEC’s comprehensive ground plan to include gate hold management ensuring Safety, Security & Performance are paramount.
  • Liaises with Ramp Control Towers A & G to report any gate issues involving delayed flight departures, including emergencies, safety-related issues, aircraft mechanical delays, airline, ground handler, and vendor issues, gate equipment failures, and any other operational issues observed.
  • Proactively oversees and monitors all SFOTEC-managed gates at the ramp-level to ensure airlines, ground handlers, and associated vendors are executing their assigned duties safely and on-time in accordance with established Airline KPls and Airport gating timelines.
  • Provides SFOTEC Leadership with reports and issues related to the operation of the Ramp and associated equipment.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and use of SFOTEC’s Ramp Safety Policy and Procedures, Safety & Compliance Dashboard and Ground Handler Scorecard.
  • Maintains quality control standards for performance, reliability, serviceability, and safety for SFOTEC ramp operations using electronic devices and software technologies.
  • Ensure continued AGOA platform compliance and ongoing feedback into its development.
  • Support/participate in ramp investigations related to alleged theft, non-compliance, or other related issues.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with established service levels for performance, reliability, serviceability, and safety.
  • Respond to and resolve facility-related issues in a timely manner by initiating corrective actions.
  • Act as a liaison during airline operational irregularities, emergencies, and security incidents in ramp area. Prepare detailed narrative reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in Airline, Airport Operations or a related field.

Preferred:

  • 5 years team management experience.
  • Aviation industry and Terminal Facility maintenance experience.

 

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.
  • Valid Driver’s License required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

Knowledge

  • Aircraft Ground Handling Knowledge with understanding of aircraft handling and ramp safety and security procedures in compliance with aviation industry regulations.
  • Understanding of baggage handling systems and procedures to ensure efficient loading, unloading, and processing.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Compensation:

 

In addition to the listed base pay range, AvAirPros and SFOTEC provide generous benefits including company-paid medical/dental/rx coverage, short and long-term disability insurance, and long-term care insurance. We offer a 401k with match, and a stock plan as well as PTO (vacation/holiday/sick). This role also includes an additional bonus component of up to 10%.
