Overview

Under general direction, the Volunteer Coordinator will coordinate, manage, and oversee SFO’s Travelers Information Volunteers Program, including recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers, and ensuring effective communication and coordination with various airport departments and the public.

Note: While the typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., it is subject to change based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and Placement: Identify volunteer opportunities, recruit, screen, and placement of volunteers.
  • Training and Orientation: Design, develop, and deliver training and orientation classes for new volunteers. Provide ongoing training and resources to ensure that volunteers are informed with any changes in program policies and/or procedures.
  • Coordination and Communication: Monitor and coordinate volunteer schedules to assure maximum program coverage and effectiveness. Serve as a primary point of contact for volunteers to address inquiries.
  • Communicate with volunteers on organizational updates and/or operational changes.
  • Program Management and Supervision: Oversee daily activities of volunteers, and address issues and/or concerns. Evaluate daily operations and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Event Planning and Coordination: Plan, organize and promote volunteer events and activities including recognition program.
  • Public Relations: Represent SFO’s volunteer program to the public and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for interacting with volunteers, staff, and the public.

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and maintain accurate records.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport with volunteers, staff, and community members.

Proposed Schedule: 9 am – 5 pm - Five days a week, must work one weekend day

 

Training and Supervision Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in developing and delivering training programs and supervising employees.
Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in using computer software for data entry, record-keeping, and communication.
Customer Service Skills: Ability to provide excellent customer service and address inquiries in a professional and helpful manner.
Security Background Clearance: Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen, and a background investigation which includes employment verification and meeting all fingerprinting & airport badging requirements.
